Getting Your Ceiling Clean And Smoke-Free After A Fire In Your Brigantine Home

Every room in your Brigantine home that fills with smoke during a fire requires extensive cleaning. Your belongings require special care, and so do the surfaces of your home’s interior. SERVPRO’s Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)-certified Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT) understands the complexities involved in restoring your residence.

We know our customers in Brigantine hate smoke damage because of how badly it can affect clothing, toys, furniture, and so many other things in the average home. When your house contains textured ceilings like acoustic tiles or other styles, we want you to know we have the ability to restore these, as well as flat surfaces. While you might find it possible to clean windows and mirrors of soot deposits, the porous surfaces of these ceilings require special equipment and training.

When we come across acoustic tiles or similar materials, we start restoring these by lightly vacuuming any loose soot away from the surface. With acoustic tiles, we often use a light brush, but for other ceilings where some of the fillings could become damaged, we refrain from this part. This step in the Peroxide Active Ceiling Cleaning process is similar to how we clean other surfaces like walls.

After we finish vacuuming the surface of the ceiling, we use an upholstery cleaning machine. Instead of using upholstery cleaning solvents, we instead fill the machine with Oxi-Zap, which is a stabilized hydrogen peroxide. The whitening power you might be familiar with in household H2O2 comes from its ability to break stain-causing substances down into smaller particles, not from a bleach-like chemical. Oxi-Zap works similarly.

Once this dries, we can see if the ceiling now looks good enough without an application of new paint, or if the ceiling needs a new coat of paint. The steps we completed earlier mean we do not need to prime the ceiling before painting, which can often reduce the texture, and any sound-proofing, from what it looked like before.
